Quintet for Winds (1974)

Quintet for Winds is a series of continuous variations on the nine–note theme stated initially by the oboe. The culmination of these variations is a group of four chords, each containing the last five notes of the opening motive. The fourth chord is a rippling cluster which gradually resolves to a single note. The piece concludes with a capricious reference to the opening bars.
